Darebin to Collingwood on the Yarra Bend Trail

Celebrating the last day of 2017 in style … an 11 km run with Hildegunn along the Yarra river from Darebin park near Heidelberg to Collingwood children’s farm at Abbotsford in Melbourne.

Congratulations to wonder woman (Hildegunn) who has never run 11 km in her life, and not only did she nail it, but she did it in style! Very impressed 🙂

We had planned to run at You Yangs regional park outside Melbourne tonight but unfortunately our lift there fell through. No doubt we’ll make it out to You Yangs and Flinders Peak another day.

Today we enjoyed ourselves in gorgeous sunny weather, discovering new parts of Melbourne.

Hildegunn’s challenge for 2018 was to run the whole distance along the Yarra River to Flinders Street station and Federation square, which is over 20 km. We were going to celebrate with sushi at one of the kiosks at the station. We ended up doing this run although not all the way (I think we did 15-16 km and took a shortcut somewhere), and when we got to Flinders Street we realised we had no money to buy sushi or to take the train back to Darebin. Somehow in our excitement we had forgotten to put cash or a debit card in our jogging pants. :D

A very kind conductor at the station allowed us to travel back to Darebin and top up our travel card once there. Phew! Just the thought of running another 20 km back home would have been too much :D but not impossible.
