Onsen Bathhouse

The Onsen out in Jackey’s Marsh near the Great Western Tiers is based on an authentic Japanese bathhouse. Situated in a greenhouse with tomato plants and kiwifruit vines hanging, a slow combustion wood heater warms the bath water. The water is spring fed and was tested and found to contain all the minerals except for zinc. Today we enjoyed a 3 hour dip in the bath. It started with a shower, then a slow soak in the 44 degree temperature water, which slowly cooled down. Now and again we had to get out to stop from overheating, before heading back into the divine warmth. It was perfect, on a day that was only around 4-6 degrees outside, to while away the morning in such a relaxing atmosphere. Thanks to Claire, Kylie, Anna, Leny and Hildegunn who made it to the bathhouse. This won’t be the last soak in the bath, as we’ll be organising another dip soon. :)
